DAVID J GREX '09 - north liberty city council
ELECTION DATE: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
ELECTION PLACE: NORTH LIBERTY COMMUNITY CENTER
Introduction

STATEMENT of CANDIDACY - October 1, 2009

As a candidate for North Liberty’s City Council, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the town’s citizens.  My name is David Grex.  Two years ago, I relocated my family from the Washington, D.C. area to our new home in this community.  My wife Sarah, an Iowa native, and I have enjoyed the transition back to the Midwest with our two children, Ryan (23 months) and Payton (7 months).

We made the decision to relocate here for many of the same reasons as most of the families that represent the tremendous growth in North Liberty.  We were looking for good schools, a safe community, and a stable economy with growth potential.  Like you, we have found those opportunities in North Liberty.

I am running for City Council because I want to see North Liberty continue to grow and thrive, and because my family and I represent the citizens that have led to the rapid growth of this city over the last four years - younger families from outside the area moving into new developments.  I believe this segment needs a voice on our City Council, and through my representation, we can work to bring together the ideas of both the established community and the growing population of young working families.

The North Liberty City Council will be my first privilege of holding a public office.  However, from my experience in business, I have developed a unique ability to manage people, communicate clearly, and maximize resources.  It is these skills that I bring to public office, where the need to listen to constituents, drive progress in the community, and practice fiscal responsibility is paramount.  By working toward this end as your City Council member, I am confident our community will continue to grow and thrive.

CANDIDATE STATEMENT - Iowa City Press-Citizen
October 28, 2009

As a candidate for North Liberty’s City Council, I want to take this opportunity to familiarize the citizens with my background, experience, and where I stand on the current issues facing our growing city.

Originally hailing from the Midwest, my wife and I have lived and worked in Phoenix and Washington, D.C. before relocating our family to North Liberty.  During this time, I have gained business experience in finance, accounting, marketing and sales, and I currently work as the Local Sales Manager for OnMedia, the advertising arm of Mediacom.  From this business experience, I have developed a unique ability to manage people, communicate clearly, and maximize resources.  It is these skills that I bring to public office, where the need to listen to constituents, drive progress in the community, and practice fiscal responsibility is paramount.

I am running for City Council because I believe in the continued growth of North Liberty, and because I feel my background and experience in business can benefit the citizens and our city administrators as we face the challenges of expansion.  In the past decade, our city has doubled in size, and with this increase in population we have seen a corresponding demand for commercial development and infrastructure.  In order to keep pace with future residential growth, I believe taking a proactive approach in these key areas is essential.

As your City Councilor, I will focus on keeping the businesses that reside here, while continuing to attract additional commercial growth.  This focus on commercial development will create jobs, increase community wealth, and will grow the tax base of North Liberty.  To support this commercial growth, the city must focus on infrastructure improvements to address the flow of traffic, increase public safety, and attract businesses to our community.  The third pillar to ensure the continued growth of our city revolves around education; in particular, working with the Iowa City Community School District to build a third high school within the North Liberty city limits.

By taking a proactive approach in these areas, our city will continue to grow and thrive, and will guarantee that North Liberty remains an ideal place to work, live, and raise our families.  Thank you for taking the time to familiarize yourself with where I stand on the issues facing our community, and on November 3rd, don't forget to vote David Grex for City Council.
